Today Sony Computer Entertainment announced that it had acquired game developer Media Molecule, creators of LittleBigPlanet for the PS3 and PSP.

Quote from the release by Alex Evans – Co-founder of Media Molecule:

“Since Media Molecule’s inception, we’ve had a uniquely close relationship with SCE. Over the years they have consistently shown their dedication to Creative Gaming and Media Molecule, not only through their support of the company, but their willingness to take risks and embrace our often unusual approach and ideas,” said Evans. “What we’ve achieved already with LittleBigPlanet has proved this to us and we’re excited by this new chapter of innovation and creative gaming, for all involved.”

Media Molecule will be joining the ranks of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) and will bolster the already phenomenal talents of 15 game development studios located in Japan, the USA, the UK and The Netherlands.

Congrats to the Media Molecule team and to SCE for finding a great partner and talented studio.

Did someone say Pizza?

Donnie, Mikey, Leo and Raph are back and they are ready to smash everything in site. But they are not alone this time they have a few new friends tagging along; Zen like Master Splinter, the nosey reporter April O’neil and the urban jock Casey Jones. A number of other classic TMNT characters will also be found through out the game – the Shredder and Foot Clan member Karai will be seen at several points through your story.

From a playability mode this game relies heavily on the strength of the multi-player matches, as the story mode was incredibly short and barely lasted the length of a television episode. Good thing you can play through with all 6 of your primary characters. The controls are simple and the make good use of the Wii mote and the Nunchuk. However The real fun begins with a 4 person battle in a 2D world. Battle your friend locally or take to the Wii network for some online smashing shenanigans. Graphically this game is fairly standard for the Wii. Black and White Cut scenes (shown above) and bright colourful settings for each battle provide a number of great back drops which include multi-tear settings and destructible objects (in some cases the environment is more dangerous than your opponents. Watch out for falling power-ups they are as good for you as they are your your opponents and the AI loves to get them before you can.

Musically this game left me with a feeling of a one SNES title – short music clips that play on rapid repeat, coin counting point totals and the same tag line for each battle, but the actual sound effects of the game are quite good while your actively battling.

Overall I found this to be a very average 2D fighting game, which is actually to bad consider what could have been. Please bring back the old side scrolling TMNT game from 1989, and give it the remake it rightly deserves.

Pros:

- TMNT fans will appreciate the game – Easy to play and fun for group gaming – Good in battle sound effects

Cos:

- Voice acting is light and repetitive – Very short short story mode – Single player reply is limited

Feed your Console gives Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up a: 6.5 out of 10.

Developer: Game Arts
Publisher: Ubisoft
Platform: Wii, PlayStation 2

Following the movie storyline but without all the fluff and the extended and unnecessarily ling battle scenes, you will traverse the globe and battle over the remaining fragments of the All Spark. The hardest decision is choosing to Save the planet, as the Autobots, or try to destroy it, as the Decepticons.

Play as one of four Transformers, depending on the side you are playing as, and head out into the world. Complete challenges where you will protect (or destroy) key locations and race against time and battle it out with your enemies. Tackle your missions with speed and efficiency, while finding the Autobot/Decepticon tokens. Earn energon rewards for killing your enemies and completing the bonus mission tasks, these bonuses are worth the time and investment. Use energon to upgrade your team; more health, stronger weapons, faster drive boots and recovery times. Also unlock original G1 cartoon episodes – yes sir the original 1980’s Transformers episodes – FANTASTIC!

Where I was disappointed with this game was the length, a common problem for movie games. Most missions are 10 minutes or less, even completing all the side quests takes no time. However I’d say this was mu only beef with the game. Game play was easy to grasp – transforming and driving (or flying) is done with ease and switching between your primary and secondary weapons is as simple as pushing a button.

Re-playability is also an issue for the game, how many times can you save/destroy the world and not get tired of it? But do not worry multiplayer is here to save the day! Deathmatch (solo and team), Control (the bases), VIP (kill the team leader) and Shard battles (Capture the Flag). Find yourself on the world leaderboard and participate in the Global Battle matches to help your side of the war win.

Autobots Transform!

Pros:

* Better than the Movie
* Play as your favourite Characters
* Unlockable G1 Transformer episodes
* Multiplayer extends playable life.

Cons:

* Single player is short
* Limited Reply value, out side of multiplayer

Feed Your Console gives Transformers Revenge of the Fallen: 8.5 out of 10.

Publisher: Activision
Developers:
Luxoflux – Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Beenox Studios – Microsoft Windows
Krome Studios – Wii, PlayStation 2
Vicarious Visions – Nintendo DS
Savage Entertainment – PlayStation Portable

The game just seems to mean so much more to these guys. They’re playing for their hopeful professional futures, their schools and pride – not the next big contract or the millions of dollars in endorsements. This is what really draws me to college ball.

It’s been about 2 years since I picked up NCAA Football, so I wasn’t sure what to expect this year having read nothing about it. Immediately I jumped into the “Road to Glory” (previously known as Campus Legend) and created myself a player. From there, they put you in the shoes of your player in the midst of the State championships tournament where you have to put on your best show for the college scouts.

After that’s done, the very hot Erin Andrews from ESPN talks about you and your play during the tournament speculating where you may decide to go. Once the decision has been made, it’s up to you to work your way up the ladder to the starting position by practising and performing events that include studying (keep that GPA up or you’ll be suspended) and training.

Further to that, 2 other features that really stand out are the Team Builder modes that easily and effectively puts you in charge of building a team via a website (for ease of use) and the “Season Showdown” mode which is really just a big online football pool where you pick a team and try to score the most points in a season. This sound interesting to me but not having any friends who are into NCAA, I might have some difficulty keeping up with the Joneses.

The presentation of the game is awesome – the stadiums are always full, the sounds is great with the Marching Band music that goes hand in hand with College ball games, the Mascot dances and the over atmosphere almost makes it feel like you’re there.

I’m not sure how well NCAA Football sells in Canada, but for all you fans of Football in Canada, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. For everyone else, this is a damn fine game that’s sure to keep you entertained if even until Madden comes out in August.

GO HURRICANES!!!!

Pros:

* The Atmosphere
* Road to Glory Mode
* Online gameplay, create-a-team and tournaments
* Erin Andrews – Hello – It’s Erin Freaking Andrews! Oh ya and her updates on your progress

Cons:

* Some computer play calls are frustrating (ie: Kick a FG on the 1yd line with 20 seconds to go)

Feed Your Console gives NCAA 10 an 8.5 out of 10

NCAA 10, Fight Night Round 4, Tiger Woods 10 and next month Madden 10. As an armchair athlete, it’s my duty to play all of these titles and bring to you my verdict. Without further ado, I bring you Tiger Woods 10.

As someone whose only played golf a handful of times, I can’t even call myself a casual fan but something always drew me to this series. The 1st version I ever purchased was back in 2003 on the original Xbox and I was instantly hooked. The game kept me entertained for hours prompting me to get out and golf again (IRL) – I failed miserably and bent one of my new clubs in frustration. I’ve yet to play since.

Tiger Woods 10 kind of feels like that day back in 2003. It’s beautiful, it’s fun, yet extremely frustrating. If you’re a veteran of the series, you can rest assured that the very precise and comfortable controls haven’t changed at all which is a very good thing. They have however, changed up the putting a little. Now you actually get a meter that better allows you (in theory) to gauge the distance/power needed to make that long putt. I’m either doing something very wrong, or this has actually made it more of a distraction from the guessing of the previous few versions (which I actually liked).

That said, the game has so many features and options, novices and pros alike can find something they’ll enjoy in this game. Tiger Woods 10 features 16 of the most recognizable PGA courses, online tournaments that coincide with real life tourneys, USGA (US Golf Association) rules, Tournament challenges and even some wackier arcade-like things (pink bunny suits, over the top drives and attribute enhancing clothing).

Playing through a season with a created golfer (Using EA Gameface is an option) is enjoyable but don’t expect to win too much. The real pros will whip ass in this game much like they would in real life and that can also be frustrating. At one point, I was in the lead by 3 strokes and out of nowhere, Tiger gained upon me and ended up winning by 5 strokes. When playing tournament, you’ll often hear cheering in the distance and the commentators will notify you of what’s happening with an updated ticker at the top of the screen.

One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in a game was the real time weather provided by The Weather Channel. While playing the game, as weather in your area changes so does the weather in game. For example on Saturday, it was storming out and in the game the same thing was happening. As the day brightened up and clouds disappeared, so did the game. Something small but still pretty cool.

All in all I would have to say that Tiger Woods 10 is a damn good game despite the frustrating moments and what I found to be off balance difficulty levels. I hear that this game is a huge success on the Wii with the new Wii Motion Plus. I’d be interested to play that one next and hear what any of you have to say about it.

Pros:
Graphics
Controls
Online Touraments
Real time Weather
Number of playable courses and real golfers

Cons:
Unbalanced difficulty levels
New putting meter is distracting resulting in many missed putts

Feed Your Console gives Tiger Woods 10 an 8 out of 10.

Travel to many of New Yorks finer establishments in your pursuit of Gozer and the oculist that are trying to bring forth “the destructor” all the while trapping ghosts, blasting animated statues and melting a ton of marshmallow (man). That’s right Mr. Stay Puft is back and he is not very happy after his last visit with the Ghostbusters.

Having grown up with the Ghostbusters I was really looking forward to this game, and I was not disappointed. From the first mission strapping on my proton pack, being warned about the streams and the introduction to the trapping systems I was hooked. The voice acting, the game play, the story all stuck true to the moves of my childhood. My only major beef with this game was the time to finish the game I was finished in less then 10 hours (I almost consider this a mandatory time limit for games now) and it felt like a rather abrupt ending.

It’s not often when a movie franchise successfully makes the jump from the big screen to your console, especially with out an accompanying movie release, but I feel the Ghostbusters were successful here. Bringing back all the original actors to voice their characters as well as a number of the supporting characters. Sticking true to the original movies Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis assisted in the writing of the games storyline giving it that true Ghostbusters feel.

Single player gameplay is your typical third person shooter, but with a pack shooting accelerated particles instead of bullets. Your standard proton stream is your primary weapon, but you’ll receive and purchase useful upgrades as you progress throughout the game. Things like the Stasis Stream, the Meson Collider and the Slime Blower will become available to you, along with upgrades to deal with overheating and trap advancements. You will easily be able to purchase all of these well before making your way to the final level of the game, you will also have plenty of money left to spare in the end. During the course of the game you’ll make plenty of use of your PKE Meter to identify precious spiritual artifacts, hidden objects and build your ghost database – pay attention to this as it will help you identify the weaknesses of your enemies.

Multiplayer is online only – no local multi-player – and takes the form of a Hoard mode style ghost hunt. The clock ticks down as you and three other players fight and trap ghosts or defend precious artifacts. This is a good way to extend the life of the game but gets old quickly. Maybe some DLC will give some new life to this portion of the Ghostbusters the game.

Graphically you will recognize the streets and locations of New York City, from the Library to Sedgewick Hotel and even central park. Making good use of the enviromnes your find transitions between indoors and outdoors are flawless and require no load time. Cut scenes are full of humour and information on what to expect next and how to use your newly acquires upgrades.

Even though I enjoyed this title the length of the game play makes me say – this is a rental for most people, unless you can find it on sale for under $40.

Pros:

– True the the original Ghostbusters stories
- Easter eggs fr fans spread throughout the levels
- Voice acting and writing from the original movie cast
- You feel like a ghostbuster

Cons:

– Game felt short
- no local multi-player
- multi-player gets old fast

Feed Your Console gives Ghostbusters a 7.5 out of 10.

Not a bad list of achievements for a 23 year old from Moscow with only 4 years experience in the NHL.

New York, NY – June 16, 2009 – 2K Sports announced today that Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals, the 2009 Maurice “Rocket” Richard Award winner and Hart Memorial Trophy candidate, will be featured as the cover athlete and spokesman for the next iteration of the popular NHL 2K franchise, NHL® 2K10. While leading the National Hockey League (NHL) in goals scored for the second consecutive season, Ovechkin has become one of the most recognizable faces of the NHL in only his fourth season, and will bring his electrifying personality and unmatched passion for the game to NHL 2K10 this year.

NHL 2K10 will be available this fall for Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3.
